What you can do

Protect your property
Whether it is your home or your business premises that are at risk there are several ways to keep flood waters at bay when surface water threatens to breach your threshold. We have produced a booklet with some suggestions that you might find useful – and interesting!

Protect yourself
Don’t leave it till the last minute to decide what you need to take with you if you need to evacuate – or even just to move upstairs. Make a Personal Emergency Plan, a list of things you will need if told to evacuate and another list of phone numbers you might need to contact.
The Environment Agency has a comprehensive Personal Flood Plan checklist that you can download and personalise. If you are likely to require any assistance coping with an emergency, please let us know, and we will contact you if a flood is imminent. Any information that you share with us will be kept in complete confidence.
Make your property more flood resistant
From mini raingardens, to soakaways, from water butts to permeable paving, there are many ways to make your property more capable of dealing with excess surface water.

Already have some measures installed? Excellent! But make sure that they are routinely checked, as some installations - for example hidden soakaways - can lose their effectiveness over time.
We have produced a short Guideline Note to give you some food for thought.
